Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge #76!

Happy Friday Everyone! It is a long weekend for us here in Canada...so an extra Whoot whoot for that!
I want to start with a HUGE disclaimer. This card is derived directly from the inspiration of the sketch....although today it doesn't appear that way.
I started with the large rectangle background panel. I am using the "early bird" collection from Cosmo Cricket (which is quite fitting as I am up early before the sun today to try to catch some cool crafting hours). So far, so good.
Then I took that center block and made it my large polkadot blossom layer. Then I looked through my supplies and found this really cool felt branch from Prima....I thought,
"it's an embellishment, it won't mess with my sketch". Then the circle within the block....well you know I had to stick with the blossom theme so my "circle" is the two sweet birds cut out. They were perfect for sitting on the branch. So as you can see...all the good intentions starting out with a sketch can sometimes lead me down a different creative path. I look at this card and it has resemblences of the sketch but it is a bit of a stretch...lol!

The two sweet lil' birds are from Kim Hughes' "Spring Trees" set as well as the sentiment. I colored the birds with my copics to match my blossoms and then colored the background of my white paper to match the yummy vanilla shade in the paper.

Here is one of the very fun details of this card....and a little tip too. I try not to cut these large embellishments and let them hang over the edges a little. To enable this card to fit in an envelope I simply wrapped this felt leaf around to the backside of my card. I also wrapped the trunk from the bottom up into the inside of the card as well. It looks cool and doesn't make the design look "cut off". I did my sewing last as well so that I could stitch through this branch and have my white stitches show up against this yummy chocolate color. Just a peek into my thought process.

Here is the sketch so you can play along in TAYLOR'S challenge.

Office Supplies

I have the great opportunity to host this weeks "Ways to use it" challenge on Splitcoaststampers. I am filling in for the FABULOUS Julia Stainton as she has a funeral of a family friend to attend. Hugs and Prayers to you today Julia....

I had thoughts of doing something fabric....but didn't want to scare too many away from the challenge so I went with something that we ALL have in our house.....Office Supplies!
Whether they are made for scrapbooking or the regular office supplies that you have kicking around in the house I would love to see how you incorporate those items into your card designs! You can join in the challenge HERE.

In my card I used a couple of fabulous new items from Tim Holtz. The mini paperclip and the tiny staples are from his line. I just love the small scale of these products making them perfect for cards. I also used the notebook punch to add a little more of a school look. This new ATC (All things considered) set is being released Tuesday (August 4th) at Cornish Heritage Farms.....Woohoo! I've had a lot of fun playing with it.

I colored the image with my copic markers, making the shadow resemble the color of the kraft card stock. I used E31, 35 to achieve this look. For her clothing I grabbed my new pale colors and faded away to whites. If you click on the photo you can see a close up version.

Here are all my card details:
Stamps:
School Primer (ATC) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko),Aqua Adirondack (Ranger)
Paper:
Kraft, Simply Smooth White (Prism),Girl Friday (Cosmo Cricket)

Card Classes

I am doing a little happy dance as I have completed all the card kits for the classes I am offering in the month of August! Woohoo! Did you know I stamped over 600 images?....
Seeing that the certification for Vancouver (Langley) is totally full I thought I would let you know about a card class I am running the very next day (August 16th) at Clipper Street! For those of you who wish to practice what you learned in the certification or for those of you who want more of a "consumer" class....this is perfect for you. The photo is a little teaser for the three cards we will make and color together. Here is the link if you want to know more details, scroll about half way down and you see the photo of me in "crazy about copics". See you there!

School Day Dreamin'

Dreaming of those school days while we are in the middle of a HEAT WAVE. Now if I lived in California I might have considered central air conditioning in my home a must...but here in BC it only gets really hot like this a handful of days....but those days can be brutal! We have a old, tiny AC that sits up in our bedroom window...just enough to take the edge off while we sleep.
Yesterday the humidex was up at 40 degrees (celsius) and today it is supposed to climb higher!

Onto my lil' card. Isn't she darling! I think she matches the feel of this "Girl Friday" paper by Cosmo Cricket perfectly! Today is the first day I could show you a peek of this stamp set. This is from the new ATC set coming out next Tuesday called "School Primer" from Cornish Heritage Farms. I stamped her directly on kraft cardstock. I did my base coloring (Some grays and neutrals) with my copics then added the blue of her dress with my prismacolor pencil. When mixing coloring mediums like this ALWAYS do your marker work first...as to not contaminate the nibs. I stamped the sentiment in vanilla pigment ink and added a little dimension to my chipboard flower by cutting a flower from felt using the blossom Spellbinders die.

Now I'm off to put more milk ice cubes in the freezer....Mmmmm....mocha frapps...a sweet indulgence on hot days!

Yay! Cupcake Friday!

What is more perfect on cupcake friday than fabulous "Girl Friday" paper from Cosmo Cricket. I just love the fun patterns and colors in this collection! I had a fun time coloring up these "ocean friends" from the Kim Hughes Line.....which always is a perfect match with fun paper. I used my copics directly on this patterned paper. I had to use a light hand as the color would spread a little on me but I was happy not to paper piece them!
Here are all my card deets:
Stamps:
Ocean Friends (Kim Hughes Collection) by Cornish Heritage Farms

Christmas in July

Time for some more Christmas peeks! This is a great image by Thomas Kinkade that is coming for Christmas. It is being released on FRIDAY at CHF! Called "Moonlight Christmas"....oooh, doesn't that sound romantic.
All I did to this image is stamp it and color in the little Christmas lights by dabbing my copic markers. I added some sparkle to the roof top and edges of the card with my quickie glue pen and some Barbara Trombley's fine art glitter.
This journal note card paper was the perfect size for my image so I didn't worry that it had note card lines through it. I stamped directly on this paper and thought the lines added some fun modern character. You can be hip with Thomas Kinkade.
Here is the full card shot. Adding a few fun flowers by Prima to pick up on the reds and the sentiment is stamped on a piece of scrap kraft paper and pasted in as well.
Here are all the deets:
Stamps:
Christmas Moonlight, Sentiment (Thomas Kinkade) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko), Cranberry Adirondack (Ranger)
Paper:
Kraft (Prism), Journaling Note Page (Making Memories)
Accessories:
Buttons (Making Memories), Flowers (Prima), Copic Markers, Glitter (Barbara Trombley), Quickie Glue Pen (Sakura), Twine, Sewing

So what is on your Christmas stamp wish list....would love to know!
Have a great day!

Monday Intentions

My monday intentions FLEW out the window when I took a peek at the challenge today over on SCS. Intentions were (and are) to get some "work" done...but how could I resist a fabric flower challenge?
What is a hobby if you can't take time out and enjoy stamping just to stamp...this was my justification brain talking...
I wish you could feel and see the texture on the card. The large blossom is beautiful Michael Miller fabric cut out with a blossom nestabilitie die cut. I first stuck my fabric to Claudine Hellmuth's sticky back canvas to give my flower some weight and to keep it from fraying. I then put it through my die cut machine and COOL a neat fabric layer to add to my card. I curled the petals a little because with the canvas back the flower is quite bendable. I have a few more ideas swirling that I am going to try this out as well. A few more hours in the day would be great!
Here are all my card deets:
Stamps:
The birds and the bees (Kim Hughes Collection) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko)
Paper:
Early Bird (Cosmo Cricket)
Simply Smooth White, Orange (Prism)
Accessories:
Fabric (Michael Miller)
Sticky Back Canvas (Claudine Hellmuth)
Blossom, Circle dies (Spellbinders)
Chipboard notes (Cosmo Cricket)
Copic Markers

Now to get back to my "Monday Intentions"....have a great day!

Cupcake Friday's Are Back!!

Yeah! Cupcake friday's are back after a wee break. What is as good as cupcakes? Fruit in season!
My counter is full of fresh local fruit. I have the Lapin cherries (we already have gone through a 20lb case and are on our second one....now there's a master cleanse Carole...lol). I also have fresh apricots, plums, blueberries and raspberries. Fresh carrots from Grandma's garden...well you get the picture.

I wanted to show you a close shot of my little copic colored fruit basket. These images are from the Shady Tree Studio line "Fruit Basket" from CHF. I did some quick masking with a post it note to layer my fruit. The cherries were colored on white card stock then cut out and paper pieced over the fruit bowl.
I colored these trying to keep a "50's" feel to my card as I wanted it to match this awesome new Scrapblock. Guess what.....That scrapblock is released TODAY! I think it is my new favorite favorite scrapblock. When it comes to stamps I feel like a teenager, changing my mind on my favorites each time I see something new...giggle.
I used the "feathering" technique on a few fruit pieces. Notice the top of my apple is a little yellow and a wee spot of green showing on my pear. You don't want over ripe fruit...lol!
Here is the whole card. I added a strip of "early bird" patterned paper to add to the retro jive. Airbrushed the whole thing to age it a little.
Here are the complete card deets:
Stamps:
Newspaper Ads (Scrapblocks), Fruit Basket (Shady Tree Studio) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Espresso Adirondack (Ranger)
Paper:
Early Bird (Cosmo Cricket)
Herb Garden Light, Espresso, Simply Smooth White (Prism)

Copic Markers
Air Brush System (Copic)

Circle Die (Spellbinders)
Ribbon

Card Art

There are moments when I am done creating a card that I can look at my project and see the "art". This was one of those times!
Inspired by a clean and simple challenge over on SCS I decided I wanted to create more of an art looking piece. I love white flowers, although they are sometimes very hard to capture in stamping as the paper is usually white, therefore it is hard to "color" white.

I'll talk a little technique here beside my close-up. Feel free to click on it to see it even closer. To achieve these white flowers I stamped them with versamark on white paper and embossed with clear detail powder.
My dilemma.... I can't use tradition dye ink to make the stems black as they would resist the color. Out came my copics. The black stems I colored with my marker then I masked the entire flower and airbrushed the background.

A couple things to note...since my flowers are white I wanted my most intense airbrushing to be right next to the flowers. I used a few colors R39, R35, R22, W2, W7. After airbrushing I peeled my masks off and used R000 to color what was left untouched by the embossing powder in the middle of my flowers. Sometimes dragging a little of my airbrushed sky for color into my flowers. I also shadowed the flowers with my W7 marker for more definition. As you can tell, I just did a lot of playing and was so pleased with the results.
There is more resist challenge fun over at Cornish Heritage Farms...with big prizes, make sure you check that out too!
Here is my complete supply list:
Stamps:
Freesia Happiness (Jan 2009 SOTM), Mother's Day Centers (Mona Lisa Moments) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:

Versamark, Black Stazon (Tsukineko)
Paper:
Simply Smooth White, Black (Prism)
Accessories:
Copic Markers
Air Brush System (Copic)

Ribbon (Prima)
Button
Clear Detail Embossing Powder

Note: I used the stazon ink for my sentiment as I knew I wanted to stamp on my white flower a little and if I used dye or pigment ink it would not stay overtop of that embossed finish.
Thanks for letting me GUSH over my lil' arty card today! Have a good one!

Vintage Baby, Vintage....and a winner!

I am FILLED with excitement today because I can show you a peek of a brand new scrapblock that is currently becoming my new "fav"! SOOOOO versatile, you can use this scrapblock with people, flowers, images or just on it's own. Today I created a very different baby boy card. I used those fab retro papers from Cosmo Crickets "Early Bird" collection and I stamped my new scrapblock directly on the patterned paper. I then spotlighted the particular ad that went with the theme of my card (in this case baby shoes).
I stamped the shoe image from "The shoe boutique" set on kraft card stock and cut them out and pasted them to my ads.

Now you ask me WHEN does this scrapblock get released.....FRIDAY JULY 17th! Don't worry, I'll have more to show you with this fabulous stamp before then....

THE TIP FOR TODAY:
You know that front sheet that comes with patterned paper packs that is basically an index for what is in the package? It is a very nice small scale and came in really handy for my little tag. So don't throw that sheet away! I often use it for paper piecing too.

Now onto the announcement of the weekend winner...
AND THE WINNER IS:

MARIA GURNSEY!

those cupcakes are so stinkin fabulous!!! as much as i love what you do with paper you are equally as stunning with fabric :)

Cupcakes and Blog Goodies!

Taking a break from Christmas today and sharing in some cupcake goodness with you...as well as some blog treats...keep scrolling!
How fun are these little felt cupcake goodies! I have them hanging from the coat hooks in my main entry and they look so sweet. SUPER easy to make.....
I used the largest petite scallop nestie die from spellbinders and cut the felt for the tops in my cuttlebug. I also wanted to add the softness of pattern and color to the felt so I chose a few of my favorite copics and colored directly to the rubber of a couple of my favorite scrapblocks (in this case the stitches scrapblock). I then misted my colored scrapblock with blender solution and stamped directly to my felt...LOVED the results!
I folded the circle in half and stitched around the top catching a ribbon in my stitching for it to hang from.
The bottom of the cupcake I just cut out free hand and stitched it to the top, this left a little lip that I added some glue and glitter to...just for fun!
Embellished with a cute button and tag.
This one I used the large polkadot backgrounder. I just love that I now have fun things to dangle in the summer not just at Christmas time. You gotta try these they are so simple and fun to make...they would make great decor for a cupcake theme party!
On to the "candy"....I have some lovely goodies to pass onto my readers. I truly appreciate you coming by and leaving comments here and there...you really make my day! So here are some treats that I will mail out to one lucky winner. A fabulous addition of CARDS magazine (I've got two designs in this one!), two background stamps from CHF, some fun embellishing items too! All you need to do is leave a comment and I'll announce a winner monday morning!

Have a great weekend!

So much to show you!

Yes, still on the Christmas kick as there is so much to show you that is coming. This is a peek at one of the images from a set I am THRILLED is coming to the farm JULY 14th! I love the primitive look and this snowman is adorable and easy to cut out and color so that he can be "white as snow".
This close shot shows you that I stamped him first on the kraft card stock then again on a scrap piece of white card stock.
I colored him using the new W00 copic marker as I am going for a warm look to suit the primitive country style.

How could I resist playing along in the "Ways to use it" challenge today...it is Christmas in July....the hardest part was picking which of the new stamps I have to play with! Tough...I know....

Look at this layout....how simple is that! You could easy mass produce this one and make little gift cards for teachers and such at Christmas. The snowflake is some grungeboard that I slapped some acrylic paint on and added glitter. The paint also acts as glue for the glitter so accomplishing 2 things in 1!
Here are all the deets:
Just Believe (Shady Tree Studio) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko)
Paper:
Kraft, Simply Smooth White (Prism)

Accessories:

Glitter (Martha Stewart)

That's it! Easy Peasy!
I have some goodies to show you tomorrow....blog treats and cupcakes...see you then!

Christmas in July

More Christmas goodies to show you! I know...too early for Christmas? Not at all. I don't want to be thinking what I will make 1 month beforehand and not even have the right supplies yet. Yes, I'm a work ahead gal....and it isn't too hard to do with all the fabulous new Christmas rubber that has landed on my doorstep!
I played along with the sketch challenge today on SCS as it was the perfect layout for this great image. This is part of another ATC set (All Things Considered) and as it makes great Artist Trading Cards it also makes fabulous full size cards too!
Here is a close up of my image. I just love how my sky fades away to white....SO MUCH EASIER to achieve with the new pale shades of copic. Here I used my new BG0000 (snow green).
For the sentiment I chose one from the new Vintage Christmas Expressions that is being released this week as well. I love all the great vintage fonts.

Here are all my card deets:

Christmas in July....no peeking!

Well maybe just a little peek....there's no harm in that! I have a ton of new Christmas stamps to play with so I wanted to show you just a peek of what is hitting the farm this week.
This stamp is a new BIG set in the Rummage Bin line called "Night Before Christmas".

Now only in Christmas fairy tale land would you have 4 children sleeping peacefully in bed. LOL! I thought this sentiment from this set was especially clever...yeah right, no peeking.

I had some of these vintage Melissa Frances papers kicking around and thought they went great with this vintage looking image. I stamped it in London Fog, I did this so that your eye would be drawn to the sentiment in black. A few touches of color with copics...yes a new one too R000 is wonderful!

I also played on the oval shape of the image, dragging out my coluzzle and the acrylic oval is one of the large fragments in the Tim Holtz set.
Stitching to finish the vintage look....yup, it is that time of year....get started on those Christmas projects early....it creeps up SO fast!

Yummy new colors!

I'm sure most of you have "herd" the news about the fabulous dozen new colors of copic! I played with them tonight and they are as yummy as they seem....LOVE THEM! I wanted to do a card to show you how nice and soft they color.

Here is a close up of the chicks. They are colored with the Yoooo and then shadowed with the Y11. I also colored a soft gray shadow underneath them. It is so easy to blend away to white with these soft colors!
Here are the colors I used on this particular card. If you look close at the chicks cheeks...they are a beautiful evening primrose :)

Here are all my card deets:

On the Farm (Kim Hughes Collection) by Cornish Heritage Farms
Ink:
Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko)
Paper:

Copic is now beginning to ship these new colors! You are gonna want these!

Hay!

Is everyone enjoying their weekend?
My family has had a great summer weekend. We took the family out on a "cherry run". I am a little nuts about fresh cherry season and we made a trip into the Okanagon to score some BEAUTIFUL berries!
The kids and hubby camped in the yard last night and we have all been enjoying the fun things of summer. Hope you are too!

Today's card....still playing with "On the Farm" by Kim Hughes. I paired this up with the lil' man paper line from Cosmo Cricket...totally sweet!

A little tip:
Sewing in a circle....Circles are not scary to sew around, you just have to take a little more time. I generally do about 4 stitches in a row, stop with my needle in my paper, lift my presser foot and rotate my paper slightly. I tend to use a zig zag stitch with a long length. This is very forgiving compared with trying to do a straight stitch in a circle.

Release Day "On the Farm"

Yeah, release day for the new Kim Hughes set "On the Farm" that you can find AT the farm!
Who doesn't love barn animals....having relatives that run a turkey farm makes for a special place in my heart for farmers. No turkeys in this set though.
Here is a look at the sheep and a little fence to go with it. I loved this sentiment as I seem to be chasing my tail lately. Anyone else find that their house goes into summer chaos mode when school is out?
In honor of all those "falling a little behind" my card is for you today!
Here are all the deets:

Hey Chick!

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadian friends! I made this card quick before heading out to the parade (my daughter marches in her school marching band). I tried to quickly load it up before I left and alas the internet connection wasn't cooperating with me. So a little late today but here is a sneak peek at what is hitting the farm on Thursday....new Kim Hughes....YEAH!
I did this with the sketch challenge inspiration on SCS today.

Here is a close look at some paper piecing I did on the chicken. You don't always need to use pattened paper when doing this technique. I just stamped this image out on white card stock a couple of times, colored with my copics and then layered up my chicken!

Here are all the deets:

Ink:
