Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge #76!
Happy Friday Everyone! It is a long weekend for us here in Canada...so an extra Whoot whoot for that!
I want to start with a HUGE disclaimer. This card is derived directly from the inspiration of the sketch....although today it doesn't appear that way.
I started with the large rectangle background panel. I am using the "early bird" collection from Cosmo Cricket (which is quite fitting as I am up early before the sun today to try to catch some cool crafting hours). So far, so good.
Then I took that center block and made it my large polkadot blossom layer. Then I looked through my supplies and found this really cool felt branch from Prima....I thought,
"it's an embellishment, it won't mess with my sketch". Then the circle within the block....well you know I had to stick with the blossom theme so my "circle" is the two sweet birds cut out. They were perfect for sitting on the branch. So as you can see...all the good intentions starting out with a sketch can sometimes lead me down a different creative path. I look at this card and it has resemblences of the sketch but it is a bit of a stretch...lol!
The two sweet lil' birds are from Kim Hughes' "Spring Trees" set as well as the sentiment. I colored the birds with my copics to match my blossoms and then colored the background of my white paper to match the yummy vanilla shade in the paper.
Here is one of the very fun details of this card....and a little tip too. I try not to cut these large embellishments and let them hang over the edges a little. To enable this card to fit in an envelope I simply wrapped this felt leaf around to the backside of my card. I also wrapped the trunk from the bottom up into the inside of the card as well. It looks cool and doesn't make the design look "cut off". I did my sewing last as well so that I could stitch through this branch and have my white stitches show up against this yummy chocolate color. Just a peek into my thought process.
Here is the sketch so you can play along in TAYLOR'S challenge.
Don't forget to see what the rest of the cupcake crew came up with:
Vicki Chrisman: This Art that makes me Happy
Jami Sibley: More is More
Monika Davis: M.A.D. Stamper
Donna Baker: Serenity in Stamping
Jackie Pedro: The Scalloped Edge
Ana Wohlfahrt: Ink A Stamp
Lynn Mercurio: Stamperosity
The cupcake sampler this week is Teresa Kline! You can find her fun blog HERE!
So I am looking forward to hopping around and seeing what the other girls came up with for this sketch....I'm sure they were "good" and stuck to the sketch :)
Have a great weekend....Our family is camping! (Pitching tents on the lawn at Grandma and Grandpa's farm). So much fun with everyone together and the cousins look forward to this family event every year! I'll snap a few photos and show you what I mean next week.

I think this is wonderful, Sherrie! Love your "take" on the sketch!!
Sherrie - your card is ADORABLE, but you crack me up with your *out of the sketch* creativity! LOL! My cards are always so literal!
wow, what a fun interpretation of the sketch, that tree is cute!!
Love your "think outside the box" sketch...so creative, I always think everything has to be "just so", wish I could learn to bend more...love it...love it!
What a FUN card! You should send it out for publication!
Outstanding Sherrie! Love that tree!
