MFT Teaser Time!

Day one of the MFT teasers for this month....hang on to your seats (literally) as a set called "You Move Me" is going to be released! This is a fantastic large stamp set with dies that go with it. I decided to make a fun fabric luggage tag.  I stamped the sentiment in versacraft ink on canvas and then cut it out with my Die-namic and ran it through my Xyron to make it into a sticker.
I also added some puffy clouds and airplane with felt and the new Die-namics from this set. So fun!

Here are the details about the upcoming release on July 5 at 10 PM EST:

  • The MFT release is on July 5 at 10 PM EST. You can attend the release party from 8-10 PM EST here in the forum for fun, games, and prizes! All the new sets and dies will be available July 5 at 10 PM EST.
  • The guest designer contest is ON! Check out the forum for details on how YOU can win over $100 in stamp sets and play along with the DT for a month.

Birthday Blog Mobbing!

Happy Birthday to a very special lady....Kim! Many of you know her as the My Favorite Things lady and I am pleased to call friend. I wanted to do something fun and not typical for her birthday card.
I used the image and sentiment from the Flower Set #1 of the "Inspired By" line as my focal point.
I used a couple of bingo cards from Melissa Frances for my non-traditional card base....notice the "5" that is highlighted in pink. That is the date of Kim's actual birthday :)

The papers and little touches are all Melissa Frances to tie in the vintage theme from the 5th Avenue Collection.

You have made it to the end of the hop....whew! Are you inspired? Go ahead and check back at Kim's blog...leaving her some birthday love there too!

If you'd like to join the celebration, we'd LOVE you to participate! You can add a card to the Splitcoast Galleries using the keyword "HBMFTLADY" or, if you're a Facebook lovin' girl you can add your project to the MFT Fan Facebook page!  Not yet a fan of MFT on Facebook? You can "like" it here and add your post!  Don't have time to stamp?  Just stop by the MFT Facebook page and wish the MFT Lady a happy birthday.  Let's MOB her on her special day!

Sketch Challenge

Welcome to a Wednesday sketch challenge by My Favorite Things. I could finally play along this week as my travel schedule is quiet for the summer. I pulled out one of my favorite characters. This is Fred Bear Oopsie Daisies.
I colored him up with my copic markers (the E 40's family). Look at all those fun cast shadows on his fur, must be a sunny day!
I mounted him on my open scallop doily die-namic. The little sentiment was stamped on one of the ribbons from the First Place Award Ribbon Die-namic.
You can check out and see all the designers who made samples for today on Kim's blog.
If you are uploading to SCS don't forget the keyword MFTWSC26 for this week!

Monday, Monday

It's Monday....last day of exams for my daughter in high school! Yeah, no more school running around, instead it will be replaced with summer running around.

Today's card is one that was inspired by the flowers around my yard. There are some really pretty ones beginning to bloom.

I stamped these long stem flowers from Hero Arts on X-press it card stock and colored them with my copic markers. I airbrushed the edges to give more of a vintage look.

I treated my focal image to some Melissa Frances Paper.... The treasured attic collection. I sewed around the edges and used Melissa Frances rub-ons for the sentiment and little resin frame to finish it off.

Below is a close up of the card.

Enjoy your Monday!

Time to Garden....

School is out and it is time for summer! I thought it would never come this year...I can actually "sleep in" tomorrow and not have to do any morning "running around".
I can also spend some time nursing my husband's garden.....hence, the inspiration for this card....
Isn't it fun to do a shaped card? I cut this card base on my Cricut Expression using the "Freshly Picked" cartridge. I have finally learned about all the little buttons on my machine so I was able to do the same shape (one in mirror image) so that they could glue together at the handle.
I used the stamp set "Mud Buddies" from My Favorite Things. I did some paper piecing of her outfit and colored her hair/skin with my copics.

Skin: E50,21,33 and yes, some BV20 and R20 for the cheeks. Hair E13,17,18. Watering cup and spade W1,5

*****Take a close look at her watering cup, those of you who have taken the intermediate certification class will identify the shading of a basic cylinder*****

All the paper is from the Kitschy Kitchen collection of Melissa Frances.
Tied up with some twill tape for fun and a rolled daisy die for some dimension on the bow.
Here is a shot of the inside. Notice that I lined my watering can with complimentary paper. I was able to do this quickly and precisely using my cricut.
The card is held together by the handle. The backside of the card is that cute polkadot paper that is on the front....it is sooooo sweet!

Wishing you a warm and relaxing weekend filled with the things you love! I am looking forward to puttering in the garden and starting a good book. Yeah for summer!!!!

Vinyl on the Cricut!

Officially NOTHING is safe in my home from my papercrafting hobby!
I wanted to show you a couple of vinyl pieces that I cut with my cricut expression to add a little pizazz to my laptop. I loved making my laptop "mine" lest it be confused with some other macbook pro.
Like I say....nothing is safe. This is my beloved Rancillio coffee machine. I love how this branch reached around the backside of my stainless machine. The "wipeability" of these wall vinyls is really great too as my coffee machine gets wet from the steamer wand.
Here is a quick little photo by photo of how to do it!
I believe this branch came from the "Happily Ever After" cartridge. I used a deep blade length of "6" and a multicut of "2" on my cricut expression to get nice clean cuts.
I did use the recommended transfer tape for the vinyl so that my branch would be straight and have no little bubbles. In the photo my vinyl face is laying against the sticky tape and then I peeled off the backing of the vinyl before applying it to my desired surface.
Here I put the vinyl branch to my clean laptop face and burnished it with a large popsicle stick.
I did the same thing to my coffee machine.
Here I peeled up my transfer tape. I love the vinyl that is made for the cricut. It cuts nice and clean (no little annoying tabs) and adheres really well.......
We have just had our walls painted.....I will have to wait awhile before attacking those!

VIP blog hop and shop!

Welcome to the My Favorite Things mid month event....the VIP blog hop and shop!
This is "Who's that Mermaid?" I actually have to confess...the new Pirates of the Carribean movie totally distorted my view of mermaids. Did it do that to anyone else? I choose to think of mermaids (the disney way).
I had a patterned acetate sheet from My Little Yellow Bicycle that was perfect for this project....any destination that has mermaids must be warm and delightful!  I added a few button bubbles to go with the sentiment for fun.
Here is a close up of the copic coloring. I dabbed the colors in with my markers instead of doing smooth coloring to add some texture. After coloring I added some white liquid applique for my shore foam and glossy accents to the mermaid to make her nice and shiny/wet.
I had a little scrap of the acetate leftover so I used it to finish up the inside. Another little sentiment for the sentiment set you get in the VIP kit and a little coral accent.

Have a look at what is all included in this kit!
Who's that Mermaid stamp set
Mermaid Sentiments mini (VIP exclusive stamp set - will never be offered for sale or be available again $9 value, FREE)
Large Rolled Rose Die-namics Die

Next on the hop is Barbara! Go check out and see what fabulous thing she made under the sea!

A la Modes Teaser

It is teaser time for the A la Modes line this month for My Favorite Things!
This is "I've met my match"....isn't she great! She will be released at 7pm PST on June 21st along with the VIP for this month. I know a girl who would love this set....hey Bek!
I colored her up with my copics:
Hair E11,13,17 Skin E50,21,33 and R20 Racket W1,5,7,9 and YG93,95 Shoes RV00,55,66 Airbrushed background E42 Grass YG01,03,93,95,97
I paired her up with some funky Upcycle patterned paper by Cosmo Cricket!

Check out what the rest of the MFT designers created. The full list is on Kim's blog!

A little sad

Hockey grieving in Vancouver......
Losers are rioting in Vancouver while we prefer to drown our sorrows in Dairy Queen.

Go Canucks Go!!!!!

Hockey fever has swept Vancouver all season long and it all comes down to tonight! Trying for what seems to be impossible for Vancouver.....a Stanley Cup!
This card was simple but the message is huge......a sentiment from My Favorite Things that sums it up for the Canucks' season. This is from "Clearly Sentimental About Success"....here is hoping there is SUCCESS for the Canucks tonight!

Congrats Grad

My daughter has some friends that are graduating high school this year so I did a clean and simple design that she could use for boy or girl grads.

This is My Favorite Things "Up, up and away". I love these hot air balloons.
I wanted to do something a little different with the clouds (scroll down for the photo tutorial). I used the flat bottom clouds that are in the stamp set as well as the flat bottom clouds die-namic.

The little grass trim at the bottom is cut from felt using the fresh cut grass die-namic.
Here is a shot of the inside. I used adirondack dye ink in lettuce for the balloons.
Here is how I did the clouds. I cut apart this die-namic with some heavy duty scissors and then laid them cut side up over my cardstock with my embossing mat underneath.
I ran it through my cuttlebug and this is how they embossed.....SQUEAL! I love it!
Next, I topped it off by stamping my clouds from this stamp set and embossed with white embossing powder.
Note: If I would have embossed with the cut side down then the stamp wouldn't have worked as it would have been the mirror image....this way I could stamp inside my clouds.
Here is a close up of my embossed clouds! Loooove!

Weekend Bird Watching

I know you have seen a bunch of hummingbird photos from me lately....but I find them to be a challenge to photograph and therefore finding it quite fun to snap pictures.
For those of you who like to play with the manual settings of a camera...these were taken on a very cloudy day here in BC.
I took them with quite a high ISO (1600) hence they are a bit grainy. I did this so that I could possibly capture the wings still. This means I had to have a very fast shutter speed 1/3200 and a low F-stop 1.8 to let enough light into my lens.
I think I will try again on a brighter day so that I don't have to have a high ISO.
These are also shot through a pane of glass (my kitchen window) which also adds a dimension of "trickiness".
For those of you interested....I am using a Canon rebel T1I with a fixed 50mm lens. I am still learning with this lens as it is tricky to get good focus with a depth of field that is so shallow at 1.8.....but it is fun to play.

ETA....I got him! Lowered my ISO and got in a little closer!

Baby Congrats

I was playing with these darling canvas clothes by Maya road the other day. I was helping my sister with a layout for a baby shower. Still on my desk and within reach....caused me to make this cute little card today.
Melissa Frances 5th avenue collection made the perfect backdrop for this card. I used the little banner swag as my faux clothesline.
Here is a little close detail shot. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things "Clearly Sentimental About Babies". I stamped it directly to my satin ribbon with versacraft ink. Adding some decorative brads and little resin frame (also from Melissa Frances).

Just in case you thought I abandoned my copics today.....think again! That ribbon WAS white.....colored up with RV00!

MFT Blog Hop and Shop!

Welcome to the June MFT blog hop and shop event! If you are a regular visitor to my blog and want to start at the beginning of the hop you can start at Kim's blog.
Today I get to show you a new Clearly Sentimental Set. This is "Clearly Sentimental about the Journey".
A very quick, simple and clean card but the sentiment does all the talking! This is October Afternoon patterned paper.
Oh how I love the pretty posies dienamic! I bent the petals a little to give them a bit of dimension.

This new sentiment set is part of the Cherry on Top promotion, you can read about that HERE.

Next on the hop....I am sending you to one of my dear friends....Alli Miles! Happy Hopping!

MFT Teaser Time!

Have you been enjoying the teasers the last few days? So much eye candy as I hop around....Here is another look for you today. You all know how much I love using felt so todays'  card shows you a peek at the new "Inspired by Flowers set 2" and a new dienamic being released this month.
I stamped the daisy in archival black ink and then used my white prismacolor pencil to add some color.
I overlaid a square of vellum paper and stitched it on with green thread.
I stamped a sentiment from this set making sure to have it come off the vellum page for eye interest.
Another touch is the felt "double scallop" border dienamic and the "rolled daisy" dienamic.

MY FAVORITE ADDITION:
The new "LEAFY FLOURISH" dienamic is breathtaking! I love it on so many levels....it is dainty, it can be curved to frame an item on my card and I haven't seen anything quite like it in a die.
It is so beautiful in felt....but handle it carefully if you cut it in felt as it is more fragile than paper.
Here is an inside of the card shot....you know I HAD to cut another leafy flourish!
Here are the details about the upcoming release on June 7 at 10 PM EST:

MFT Teaser Time!

Welcome to the Pure Innocence teaser day for My Favorite Things! Typically you would see a sweet little PI girl colored up on a card....but today I am showing you just a portion of the "ROSE" image. I had this little 1" square pendant that I thought would make a cute little addition to a key chain or purse.
Stamped on X-press it blending card with Memento ink and colored up with my copics. I coated it with glossy accents and then I was SUPPOSED to wait for it to dry.....oops, I dragged my little chain through the almost dry glossy accents and made a bit of an impression....oh well. It is cute and you only notice it super close up.....like the next photo!
I wanted to show you a bit close up shot so that you can see that I went in with my lipstick and mint spica pens to add a little shimmer.
Below is the photo of the markers I used to color this rose and the background.

MFT Teaser Time!

I almost couldn't wait to show you my teaser for today's post....this is the newest Jolinne (I love you this much) that is coming out in the June release at MFT (details at the bottom of this post).
I paired up this sweet image with Lily Bee papers (the picket fence collection) and then I mimicked what was in the image to the top border of my card. I used the MFT dienamic "Hearts a Plenty" to cut with my red felt.
I wanted to show you a really close look at the copic coloring. Lots of cast shadows on the draped stool she is sitting on.
Can you notice the extra shading done on the skin tones. I wanted to give her a nose and some knees.
I also used my multiliner pens to stroke in some hair strands and to do a little doodle design on her dress. Just a few details that I wanted to point out.
Here is a quick shot of the inside and a look at more of the sentiments offered in this set!

MFT Teaser Time!

Welcome to day 1 of the My Favorite Things teasers! Our furry friend Fred is back with "Well Done"! He is always so much fun to color. I used my copics to color this image and then used papers from the Kitschy Kitchen Collection by Melissa Frances to finish the card.
Here is a close shot of my coloring....now...confession time....
Can you spot my shadowing error?
It is the shadow from the bbq, since my sun is up in the left hand part of the sky my shadow for the bbq should actually be the mirror of what I colored. I realized it too late and didn't want to start all over. I did want to point it out however as I am always learning too....

On the home front

Life has been filled up lately with home renos. This is not a crafty post so disregard this post if you are looking for papercraft inspiration....but maybe this will be some home inspiration.
We had a circa 1980's painted scrolled railing previously so it was time to update the railing.....actually we put our railing back into circa 1900's as we love the craftsman style.

The new railing also meant new color on the walls, ceilings, doors and trim and as you can see flooring will be coming....
I love all the extra wood moldings and kicks on this railing....nice and "beefy".
Here is a little peek-a-boo into my studio. It is located off our master bedroom and looks down into the main entry of the house.
We also attended my daughter's choral concert last night....she is giggling and having fun here.
