Primitive Beginnings

I'm curious... what draws you to a card? Is it the color? original design? or sometimes the details? For me the "biggies" need to be satisfied, being color and design, but a great card often comes down to it's details. Once you have the color and design part figured out it is so fun to focus on the little things. Here is a close up showing just that...the details.

See where I stamped "grade school" right beside "location" on my patterned paper. How I set eyelets mimicking loose leaf paper. I added the ties and then did my stitching to secure my ties in place.
Do you see that there is variety in my stitches, I zig-zagged in the corners and did a straight line the rest of the way. The primitive house I stamped on bark like patterned paper to mimic the wood of an old school house. Yes, I love the details and I watch for that on cards that I look at. I think it somehow lets me dive into another artist's head.
So I am curious....what do you look for?

Here is my final project. This card was made with single images released today. You can now buy just pieces of the large Primitive Beginnings set. You can find them individually HERE. They can be unmounted or you can purchase them ready to go on a wood mount.

I've never really thought about what draws me to a card, but I LOOOOVE this card you made! The color and style caught my attention right away. I love that "primitive" look of it!! So I guess I've have to say color plays a very big part in what draws me to a card, which is funny cuz putting colors together is the hardest thing for me!

I have to agree with what you see first in a card. I guess for me it would have to be the overall design and then is it a card I want to save to my card folders to save and explore further. Having taught card making for so many years, I guess I am still in that frame of mind when it comes to seeing a card for the first time.

I haven't really thought about that either, but I think I'm also drawn by color and design first. I'm also drawn by projects, especially home decor. I love your black/white; that's always an eye-catcher for me and your primitives are some of my favorites (although I don't own them YET). :) I also love the details; although I'm also drawn to simple cards on some days. Maybe it depends on my spirit...Your card is fabulous, Sherrie! I love everything about it. Thanks for all of your inspiration and tips!

For me it's definitely color first - if I don't like the colors I really look no farther. Then it's the focal point whether it's an image or a sentiment, then the details - I really like details - it's like adding jewelery to an outfit, it just finishes the whole thing. I also have to have or see beautiful papers. You have been a great inspiration - I subscribe to your blog so I do not miss anything.
