Shaker Jar Tutorial

I have had lots of e-mails regarding the construction of my "shaker jars" that I thought I would do another one up. If you haven't picked up this really sweet a la mode image from MFT you might want to add her to your shopping list on release night (tomorrow). She is called "What's Cookin'?" (Currently on backorder but will be in stock soon)
I decided to do up a simple chocolate chip cookie mix that makes a cute inexpensive gift that anyone could appreciate.
Here is a close up of the tags that I attached to it. One is just a cute little tag using a sentiment from the set saying "Let's Mix it Up" and the other the remaining instructions to finish the cookies.
Below is the step by step photo process on making these little shakers.
I used my largest oval nestability for the out rim.
Then I laid a smaller plain oval on the inside and ran it through my machine again.
This is what your shaker rim will look like.
I then stamped my image on X-press it Blending Card paper...you can find that in Ellen's shop HERE. I cut out my image with an oval just slightly larger then my frame opening but smaller than my outer scallop....this is where having those nestabilities is so valuable and saves a lot of fussy cutting time!
I then pulled from my garbage something with plastic packaging and cut it with the same oval that I cut my image with. Perfect recycling!
So here are my three components to my shaker. The frame, my image and the acetate sheet.
I used my glue pen to run a bead of glue around the perimeter of my frame and then attached my acetate sheet.
When dry I added my dimensional foam adhesive. Here I am using the X-press brand adhesive, I just cut thinner strips with my scissors...easy peasy:)

I thought I would like my beads in my shaker to have a bit of a cocoa color instead of clear. I poured a few beads into the inside rim of this empty packing tape roll and then copic airbrushed them with E25. Make sure the walls of your container or rim are tall as the air from the airbrush system will want to blow them around.
I poured my finished beads into my shaker and THEN removed my red strips.
I then applied the backing for my shaker which was my finished colored image.
Just adding a few more strips of adhesive as this is what will stick to my jar.
All ready to be attached to my jar.
And the jar you may ask? I like to keep my good canning jars so in this case I recycled one of our pickle jars.
See you all tomorrow for MFT's big release....in the mean time you could make up this easy gift idea for one of those many gift recipients that you will have on your list as we get close to Christmas!
