Somethin' Special

For Release Day! Yes, it is backgrounder release day at Cornish Heritage Farms. We have been blitzing all week and I saved the best for last. Today's challenge is anything but a card! I've had so much fun with fabric lately that I thought backgrounds would look great pieced together. I found some lovely colored felt at the fabric store and cut out my own flower and stitched around it for detail. This is simply pigment ink with some of my favorite backgrounds. I used the two new releases....can you spot them? They are tiled scallops and dots and circles. Pop over to the Cornish gallery and see what the other girls have cooked up for this challenge. Looking forward to spending my Friday perusing the gallery!
If you can sew lines, you can piece together squares. All my squares were white 4.25" square pieces. I stamped them and assembled them first. I did my flower detail next. Then I cut some cotton batting and a white piece of fabric for the back and pinned them together. To secure my sandwich together I stitched along my seam lines in rows and columns. I then took a straight edge and a rotary cuter and trimed off any excess....The binding takes a little know how, all it is, is a really long strip of fabric (2.25" wide) I pressed in half (lengthwise) with my iron. I then stitched it all the way along the edge of the front of this mini quilt. Make sure all your raw edges are together, then turn the fold over to the backside and secure with a blind stitch all the way around. The whole project took 3 hours...start to finish.
Here was my color inspiration and also gives you an idea of scale. I think it would make an adorable doll blanket or decorative mat for on top of a dresser, or even a dollie blanket. I know, yes, I'm a Martha fan... love her clean style.
Here are the details to this project:
Stamps:
Large Polkadot, Pretty Pattern, Tiled Scallops, Dots and Circles Backgrounders (Cornish Heritage Farms)
Ink:
Orange (colorbox), Aloe and Walnut (EK Success for Martha Stewart)
Accessories:
White fabric, felt, small flower and button (MM), Sewing, cotton batting

****You may have noticed an increase in fabric projects.....I just can't put my sewing machine away! I am so thrilled to use my stamps to make something totally authentic! Loving it!*****

Thanks to those brave souls who commented yesterday, I am looking forward to seeing what this next year brings you!
