Bird on a Hill

Today I went very "earthy" and I just had to play with my new background stamps from CHF! The tree bark background stamp is inked in Chocolate Chip craft ink and then embossed with Tim Holtz Distress embossing powder. This give the really rough look and feel of bark that I was going for. The other background stamp is called Cracked Montana Earth.....just love it! It makes the perfect mound for my Crafty Secrets bird to perch on. I cut my main image out using my new Nestabilities Die cuts, I chose the petite scallop because everything else was in such a large scale I wanted to create some balance. The stick pin is from the dollar store, just colored it with my copics to match the bird and earth. Ribbon from my stash. You really should try out these Background stamps they are really deep etched red rubber and stamp BEAUTIFULLY!

Here is a close up of my main image. I wanted to show you the coloring with the copics. I used the montana cracked earth BG stamp from CHF and masked it off with a post-it note to give it a rounded top. I used my darkest marker to draw a faint line at the top of the cracked earth to give a definite line. I then used three shades of markers (pretty close in color) to blend in the earth, darkest on top gradually going lighter to the bottom. I used three markers on the bird as well. Two brown shades and an aqua blue. I color in my dark shades first then go over it all to blend with my lightest shade. The paper I used is actually white, I went with a couple different skin tones to shade my background as a final detail.

The layout is for Beate's weekend sketch challenge. Go on over there and check it out!

Happy Stamping!

Saw this on the CHF gallery and came over for a closer peep. It's absolutely gorgeous Sherrie - the turquoise blue looks so vivid and combines beautifully with the earth tones. I have that woodgrain backgrounder on order - I feel the purchase of some distress powder coming on, the effect is awesome!
